Strong rise in take-up
With logistics and warehouse space take-up of 338,000 m² in Q1, North Rhine-Westphalia got off to an extremely good start in 2011. The marked economic upturn enabled this federal state to almost double its prior-year result. While Cologne stepped up turnover by more than 5 % (58,000 m²) and Düsseldorf by nearly 13 % (62,000 m²), the biggest contribution came from the remaining parts of North Rhine-Westphalia, including the Ruhr District, with a result well over three times that achieved in 2010. This was produced both by major deals, such as the Amazon lease of 110,000 m² in Rheinberg, and also by lively demand in the smaller-unit segment. The businesssector ranking was headed by wholesale/retail with more than 50 %. Logistics firms are also benefiting from the improved orders situation and increasing their take-up (share of total: 38 %).
