Overview of the German retail locations
Top locations enjoy increased demand
Demand for retail premises in the most favoured German
retail locations in 2007 was well above average
and represented a further increase on the already very
good performance of the year before. This positive
development was evident in all the locations surveyed
by Atisreal. National and international chain store
operators in particular are on an expansion course and
in some cases quite desperate to find space in prime
areas. Demand was fuelled by new brands entering the
German market, such as the Japanese lifestyle company
Muji and Bookbinders Design from Sweden. But
established chain store firms introducing new concepts,
such as monolabel stores, flagship stores or
theme worlds, are also looking for space. This strongest
demand came from clothing firms, service companies
(e.g. mobile telephone vendors) and bodycare/health.
But catering companies, some of them with new theme
concepts, are also eager to find premises. The focus
on prime areas increased even further, while B and
above all C-locations are regarded less and less as
genuine alternatives, even if they lower their rental
prices.
